ACCA’s mission is to promote a lifetime of wellness through engagement, advocacy, education and support.

ACCA historicalIn July of 1967, a small group of concerned local citizens recognized the need for services supporting older adults in Athens and surrounding communities. Their efforts led to the creation of the Athens Community Council on Aging. Beginning with visitation and recreation programs utilizing volunteers, the Athens Community Council on Aging, has throughout its 50+ year history grown to a private, non-profit organization providing 14 aging service programs to 27 counties in Georgia. ACCA’s history of successful program administration and innovative service delivery has made it one of the leading agencies of its type in the Southeast. Each year, ACCA provides service to more than 16,000 individuals and engages more than 200 volunteers. ACCA is truly a community agency that is grateful for the ongoing support of private citizens, academics, local businesses and local, state and federal legislators.

We believe in a strong community at ACCA. Our core values describe not only what we do, but who we are. Our commitment to ensuring our organization meets these values gives us the support to help all older adults in the community Age Well.
